Winter Wetsuits

The winter season is about to start and this can only mean one thing for surfers, more neoprene is required. The technology in todays winter wetsuits is highly advanced, with materials that help wick sweat away, prevent water entering at the seams and special zip systems.

All the top wetsuit manufacturers have dedicated design and development teams working on how the suits can be improved and refined year on year. Within the industry all wetsuit manufacturers work towards winning the all important SIMA wetsuit manufacturers design award for quality and innovation. The new 2011 winter wetsuit ranges at Boardshop are in already and we are really pleased to be able to give you this quick and brief overview.

Billabong 2011 Winter Wetsuits.

Billabong Wetsuits have been making wetsuits now for twenty years and the current range is the result of a great deal of hard work. In conjunction with the I surf because….. promotion Billabong has launched a warm, flexible and varied line for 2011.

The Foil 5mm wetsuit range comes complete with a Free hood which allows you to take the suit into even colder waters. The advantage of the foil range is that all the models are available with different zip systems dependend on your preference. This means you get the same panel layout and neoprene technology with back or chest zips.

The piece de resdidance in the Billabong line is the NEW SG5 which is 30% warmer than Nylon covered neoprene. This chest zip suit uses solarmax neoprene and furnace chest to keep you warm no matter what. Boardshop is really impressed by the Billabong wetsuits, we also recommend if you are buying a new winter wetsuit you also tool up with the latest accessories including gloves and boots.

O’Neill 2011 Winter Wetsuits

The new O’Neill wetsuits line is one of the best looking lines we have seen in the past few years. O’Neill continue to push the boundaries in 5mm neoprene wetsuits because the company has always known the importance of fit and warmth required by the surfer.

The latest O’Neill Wetsuit to hit the range is the NEW Psycho RG8 FSW – we have already tried this suit out and the warmth and flexibility of this suit is excellent. The neoprene used has been chosen for its warmth but also for its environmental properties. The Psycho RG8 also features a new zip system that O’Neill have been working on for the past two years, this adds improved comfort and fit in all situations. The last big change is the panel layout which has been completely revised across the front well worth a look.

If money is no option then the Pyscho two is now available in a fly new pinstripe colourway. We last saw this option on the team rider suits, due to incredible demand and requests O’Neill decided to make this available to all but only in there flag ship wetsuit.

The Epic two is our best selling mens and ladies winter wetsuit because the quality and warmth far outstrips the low price tag. A warm suit that will last forever.

Rip Curl 2011 Winter Wetsuits

Rip Curl have invented Elastomax Neoprene this amazing tecnhology is available in all their latest wetsuits. The Elastomax neoprene allows for complete four way stretch which makes these wetsuits very comfortable. For 2011 Rip Curl have impressed us again with some really great looking winter wetsuits. The Rip Curl Wetsuits at boardshop.co.uk have been chosen based on there price and performance. The Dawn Patrol wetsuit has impressed us as this warm suit has been tested by our team here in seriously cold conditions here at our local surf spot and we have been impressed by its warmth and extensive list of features.

If looking good in a winter wetsuit is important to you then the E-bomb wetsuit is definately worth a look. Simple panel design and a striking decals make this wetsuit a firm favourite with our buying team. Rip Curl always state that no compromises are made in the making of there wetsuits and we can see that this is certainly the case, along side an excellent wetsuit program Rip Curl have an excellent line of boots and gloves that are said to the the warmest available!

The team at O’Neill will be super stoked to have won this award for what is a great looking suit, at a great price and offers superb performance.

The award is given to brands who work hard to innovate and their efforts help advance wetsuit technology and the growth of the Industry.

This is what ONeill have to say about the suit.

O’Neill introduced the revolutionary Psychofreak with XDS-Air neoprene in fall 2008.  “As the original wetsuit manufacturer it is our blood to push the evolution of the wetsuit,” stated John Hunter, Senior Product Designer at O’Neill Wetsuits. Unlike traditional cold water wetsuits that utilize thicker neoprene, the Psychofreak with O’Neill’s unique XDS-Air neoprene, a complex 3D structure of rubber and trapped air components, provides increased insulation similar to a double paned window without additional thickness or restriction.  “The ultimate goal in designing wetsuits is to make them as warm and flexible as possible; we obviously achieved that with the Psychofreak.”

The award is voted for by fellow surf manufacturers so it is a great achievement! Well done O’Neill wetsuits.

Boardshop has just taken delivery of our O’Neill winter items. Including boots, rash vests, under garments, gloves and wetsuits. Get prepared! If you have ever wondered why you get in when its cold…. Not only for your love and passion for surfing then I suggest you watch this.
This latest installment from O’Neill wetsuits follows their awesome new strapline. First in Last out!

O’Neill wetsuits have been making wetsuits for years. Their technology and R&D is second to none, the O’Neill ultraflex and fluidflex neoprene is amazing. It is amazing to think how neoprene and suit design and panel layout has changed so much over the past 50 years. Older suits were thick and heavy, no blind stiching, taped seams or liquid seams. Poor panel shapes and flushing zips were the norm. Boardshop highly recommend the O’Neill winter range. If you need advice or help selecting the suit for you, the sport you love then give us a call!

I have to say the Xcel suit I put on the summer Infinity 3mm/2mm is seriously comfy and I was really pleased with the flexibility the suit gave.
